1.                  Organising Entrepreneurial Development Programs (EDPs) and Management Development Programs (MDPs), Motivational Campaigns and ISO-9000 Programs

2.                  Organising skill development programs to provide skilled manpower for small  scale  industries.

3.                   Providing  facilities to small scale industries through sub-contact CAD-CAM and SENET.

4.                    Providing Consultancy Services including marketing assistance.

This institute works as a constructive promotional and developmental organization for small scale industries in the state of Chhattisgarh.  The Institution provides wide range of information regarding latest technology and availability of raw materials, legislation, registration, project profiles and marketing of the entrepreneurs.  The Training Programs arranged by the Institute for different categories of people such as educated unemployed youth those who were already in the line of entrepreneurship have proved to be fruitful and enabled them to start their carrier and improve their industries in the areas of quality and quantity.  SISI, Raipur extended all possible service and help for development of small scale industries and generation of employment opportunities

(SISI) is divided into divisions to achieve the above stated goals.

MECHANICAL DIVISION:

This Division undertakes all promotional work pertaining to mechanical engineering industries like preparation of project profiles, technical consultancy in the relevant field, organizing workshops/ conducting feasibility study, in-plant study, etc.

  ANCILLARY/SENET DIVISION:

The Chhattisgarh Sub-Contract Exchange of Ancillary/SENET division has been created to render services to both small and large scale industries and also with view to augment scope of development of ancillary and sub-contracted industries.  Division organizes periodical buyer-seller meets, develops vendors for large scale industries, conduct ISO:9000 TQM training programs, organize transfer of technology through Technology Bureau of Small Enterprise (TBSE), registering and computerizing data on spare capacities of small scale industries and exchanging it with medium/ large scale industries.  Marketing assistance to small scale industries is provided by mailing tender information to the members demand of Railways and other Government departments and public sector undertakings.  SENET is Small Enterprises information and Resource Center Net Work- and inter net project launched by Office of the Development Commissioner (SSI), New Delhi.  SENET aims to pioneer, create and promote databases and provide information services on products for small enterprise sectors.

CHEMICAL/ G&C/METALLURGY DIVISION:

These divisions undertake all promotional work in their respective field like preparation of project profiles, technical consultancy organizing workshops, feasibility study, in-plant study, etc. and also provide many short-term training programs in the fields like Screen Printing, Simple Chemicals, Metal Finishing, etc.

EXPORT PROMOTION:

This division is devoted to dissemination of information on export possibilities to the small industries, arranging seminars and conducting export oriented programs identifying export worthy products and initiating measures for exports promotion.

ECONOMIC INVESTIGATION DIVISION:

This division attends to conducting market survey for various products & services for which preparation of project reports are undertaken by SISI.  This division has been preparing District Industrial Potential Survey for various districts in liaison with District Industries Centers and Director of Industries of Government of Chhattisgarh State.  It also coordinates collection of data for index of Industrial Production concerning SSIs.  It acts as nodal point for liaison with SSI Board as a whole on various policies concerned with small-scale sector.  It also updates State Industrial profiles for small industries of C.G. State every year.

During the year 2002-03, SISI, Raipur also took up the challenging task of conducting AII India Third Census of registered as well as unregistered SSI Units in the entire State of Chhattisgarh and assisted the State Government to successfully complete this.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP/ MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS THROUGH SISI, RAIPUR.

The EDPs are normally of 1 month duration and Management Development Programs are of 1 week duration.  In EDPs various topics like Preparation of Project profiles, identification and selection of products, Agencies to be contacted for financial assistance, Methods for setting up SSI unit etc. are discussed.  Practical demonstrations are also carried out for the benefit of the trainees on items like chemicals, screen printing, agarbatties, soft toys, Food products etc.  In addition, in-plant visits are also arranged as part of the training program.

Management Development Programs cover selected topics like Export management, Tax laws, Working Capital Management, Production Management, Financial Management etc.

CO-ORDINATION DIVISION:

This Division co-ordinates NSIC enlistment and also works relating to forwarding viability reports on proposals to banks whenever referred to by banks.

CONSULTANCY SERVICES PROVIDED BY SISI:

a.         General Consultancy:    

SISI, Raipur provides general consultancy at its premises itself whenever visitors call on the experts at SISI.  It also provides consultancy services through correspondence wherever the needy write to SISI.  The experts at the premises of the firms also give consultancy by visiting the same.

b.           Consultancy for ISO: 9000:

Technical officers of SISI, Raipur have been trained in ISO:9000 Lead Auditors Course and have already taken the examination to get the certificate.  These officers are already in a position to conduct Awareness Programs on ISO:9000 and they will soon be carrying out the auditors function to advise the units seeking ISO:9000 at nominal rates compared to the ones prevailing in the market.  In 2002-2003 this Institute advised 8 units for seeking ISO:9000 certificate.

C.        Other Activities:

Under Consultancy services, SISI, Raipur also undertakes Study of units for enlisting for NSIC.  In the process, SISI assesses capacity and capability of manufacturers for products against standard specifications.  SISI, Raipur also study units at request from bankers for assessing technical feasibility and market viability of products.  In-plant study has also been undertaken to suggest modernization or energy conservation etc., Sick units are being studied for rehabilitation and reports forwarded to appropriate authorities.

LIBRARY:

SISI, Raipur has got a Library, number of volumes with most modern books on Small Industry Management.  Ready-made project reports are kept in the Library for ready reference to entrepreneurs to select project reports.  The Library is open to public for reference. Library is equipped with Photo copier, Publications of various government departments are also available in the library, where visitors can take copies of the extract of the publications at nominal cost.  Latest Power Point equipments with screen etc. are also available for making presentation.  State Government departments avail this service.

SISI, Raipur has been making significant contribution to SSIs movement by its multi-full activities.  The revenue earned by SISI, Raipur may be taken as an index to reflect contribution of SISI Raipur towards development of SSIs in last 3 years.  SISI, Raipur consisting of experts and staff to support them is a rare combination and can stand up with satisfaction and confidently among many organizations set up to serve small-scale industries.

Under the efficient guidance of Ministry of SSI and headed by its Director, Small Industries Service Institute, Raipur covers entire State of Chhattisgarh and operates from its office.
